Girl's sleepover, first bible study in Huaral, elections, and just hangin' with Peruvians!

Wow! This has been an incredible weekend. We had our second Friday afternoon Bible study and about 15 people at least came for some part of the time. The kids that we met from the very beginning are still coming. They are natural leaders. It amazed me to see their passion. They would say let's go invite this person and they really participated in the Bible story. I heard one little boy tell his friend that came late, well you missed the games but now we are talking about Noah! One little 3 year old invited two other friends to come and sit and listen to the Bible story. There is one girl named Margarie, that is an amazing leader. She is the only teenager that came this past week, but that did not stop her from being involved and participating. She read all of the Bible passages and even offered to pray. I believe that soon she will put her faith in Christ and take over this Bible study with these precious children in the city of Ventanilla. Please pray that adults from the market will start to come. A group of 3 guys watched us almost the whole time and I think were makign fun of us, but one of those guys sent his son over to participate and let him stay the whole time. This father said he would bring his son back the next week! I hope so because his son even at the age of 3 has a natural gift to invite others to learn. The mom of the 2 kids that we have known from the beginning and whose husband asked us to start this, seems to really have an understanding of God as well. She said that He is the only one that can fill you. She also is a leader and gets other people from the market to come to this Bible study. Please pray that she will come to know Christ and also start coming to the Bible study as well. If she starts coming, I believe other adults will come as well. Please pray that Nancy and I would know how to get the adults involved in these house churches.

Margerie, a great leader!

Sleepover! Nancy had the great idea of having a sleepover with the girls that attend our Bible study on Sunday afternoons from Tres Regiones. This is the Bible study that we have had since last year. The main attendees are a few teenage girls. Not all of them could come, but 3 girls did that were all sisters. It was so much fun. In Bible study these girls are super quiet, but are faithful to come. That totally changed during this sleepover, they were so fun and outgoing. We first started with a yummy chicken dinner from the restaurant down the street.
Then it was junk food time, watching Chronicles of Narnia, and painting finger nail time.

The next morning they got up at 7:15, and of course had to wake me up. We played chicken foot, a dominoes game, and they really enjoyed it.
Then we had breakfast. I have been learning how to cook some things lately, one of them being fried eggs. I have to start somewhere! That morning I also learned how to cook Peruvian rice. We had rice, scrambled eggs, and fried eggs for breakfast. I am trying to become more and more Peruvian. Nancy normally always does the cooking, but it is time for me to learn! They went home that morning, and then later that afternoon we left for Huaral. This is the mountain town outside of Lima. Since the bus fares were going to be double that day due to elections we decided just to go in taxi with our Peruvian dad, Nicchola. Around 3, John, Nichhola, Nancy, and I headed out for our first Bible study in Huaral. It turned out good for our first one, but we have a lot more to work on to make it better next time.
Pepe and Luis playing before Bible study started.
Nichhola and I eating some kind of fruit that we pulled directly off the tree and washed. It was good, but I still don't know what it is. What a blessing that Nichhola got to come to Bible study with us. I am sure that he will be one of the next people to come to know Jesus. Please be praying for him. He is a natural leader. He is great with people, anywhere he goes, he makes friends with the people that we are ministering to. I can't imagine the kind of witness he could be for Christ.

Nancy leading the kids in song time. About 18 people came that day to Bible study, and only 2 of those people were neighbors the rest was all the family that lived right there. We studied Creation and the sin of Adam and Eve. 2 of the neighbor boys that were only 8 and 9 knew a ton about the story. I don't know anything about these 2 boys, Josef and Jefferson, but I do know that they could be great leaders for the kids. The family had invited these 2 boys as they were passing by on the street. One of the teenagers, Christian, really made an impression on me. He seemed at first like the type that was too cool for school, but then he came out of his house and met us for Bible study with a Bible! He then proceeded to read half of the passages for Bible study and was extremely participative the whole time. Afterwards, we got into a very serious conversation about the gospel. He goes to a Christian church in Lima during the week nearby where he works. He is very concerned about the salvation of his family. I am not sure if he is a Christian by our conversation, but if not he is super close to putting all of his faith in Jesus. I talked to him about being the leader for his family, and that he would be the one to teach them. It was just so neat to see a teenager that on first impression I would think would not want anything to do with the Bible be the one to be the most into the Bible study. The handful of adults that were around, seemed very distant. Please pray that the adults would get more interested in Bible study and that the Holy Spirit would really work on their hearts.
After that, one of our best friends came over from out of town. I made a yummy gooey chocolate sauce to put over the ice cream with chocolate my mom had brought me! We had a really good time just getting to catch up with her. She also spent the night with us. Right when she was coming over, the land lady's granddaughter and niece came over. The granddaughter had been crying because her mom died a couple of months ago and they used to live in this house that we live in now. She wanted to come up here and spend time in her old house. Please pray for her as she is greiving so much the loss of her mom. Whenever her mom passed away, her father pretty much left her life completely as well. Please pray for the grandmother that takes care of a preschooler. This whole family is completely distraught. Please pray that through this terrible situation, they will see the love of Jesus and come to know Him personally. At the same time, our peruvian dad, Nichhola was over. It felt a little like a peruvian circus! It was great, but I was so thankful to have a teammate because we could not have talked with everyone if there was not two of us. Nancy made an awesome spaghetti dinner for us to all eat together! I am so thankful for as well for a place that Peruvians can come over to, eat with us, share their hurts, and that we can just live life with them.
Election day. After house church in Ancon. We went to the voting lines for a little over an hour and gave bracelets to the people in the lines. Nancy really encouraged me because she would just go up to people who were looking for the right room to vote in and ask them if they wanted a bracelet. I was at first too worried about "bothering" them. Her boldness really encouraged me. We got to talk with many people about the good news of Jesus. Nancy had a particurally interesting conversation with a Christian! He asked if we were the "gringas" that a taxi driver in his church had told him about. We were! We had ridden in a taxi about 2 months ago, with an incredible solid Christian guy that went to the same church this guy went to. What a small world. God has a crazy way of working.
After that we went to our second house church in 3 Regiones. After that, we came back to the house. I was going to work on all the blogging that I was behind on, but then we heard a knock on the door. One of our friends from the market came by to see us. Then our peruvian dad wanted to come over with his daughter and his grandaughter to watch a movie. They came over and joined us and we all watched a movie together. It is fun and exciting getting used to a life where people just come over at any unexpected moment. It always makes lifes an adventure and makes me realize I need to be ready for whatever God brings my way.
